Pencil Drawing on A1 Paper

Well, after not being on here for yonks, I suppose I should be thinking of using this blog for what I had intended it for,  and that is to showcase what I do with my time.  I am currently too busy to produce any proper work so to speak because I am maxed out preparing for an upcoming craft fair this weekend. But I have realised that that is no excuse – I have plenty of previously completed pieces and there is nothing to stop me from uploading the odd one. So this is the first one.

It is a drawing of ‘Murphy’, an American Bulldog. The owner didn’t have any photographs so I had to face the beast myself, hoping he wouldn’t eat me in the process.  Apparently they have been bred to bring down cattle, so they are an impressive and awe inspiring breed.

I was asked to do the drawing life size – an absolute first. Sounded like a good idea initially, but it turned out immensely tedious, I hope not to repeat that experience in a hurry. While I struggled to get decent paper large enough to actually draw a life sized image of the dog,  I completed it on A1 paper.  That is 841 x 594 mm, or 33.1 x 23.4 in, which tested my patience to the limit.

Although the portrait was done a number of years ago, it remains one of my favourites.
